THE GUILDS
The Guilds are the core trades, skills and talents training institutions on Phaedran Prime. All aspects of each of the Guild professions are initiated within the Guild structure. So for example,
While it is not allowed for an individual to be a member of more than one Guild at a time, transfer between Guilds can happen through a withdrawal from one Guild on acceptance with another. To do this however, means the applicant has to begin as apprentice in the new Guild. Assessment of progress though is negotiable, and the speed with which an apprentice moves through that phase is dependent on how quickly they reach the set standards. It is therefore possible for a new apprentice who had achieved Master level in a previous Guild to complete an apprenticeship within less than one tellos. Transition through Initiate level can also be rapid depending on the level of previous expertise and that gained through training.
Someone commencing apprenticeship at the beginning of their career, would spend between 20 and 25 tellos as apprentice. Once completed, they are then given the rank of Initiate in the Guild Masters with the title Ini'.
Length of time as Ini' is dependent largely on desire of the individual to progress to Master. Progress to Master is initiated by request to the Grand Master of the Guild who assesses suitability and if the applicant is deemed at level, the ceremony is scheduled.
Within each Guild there are different specialities an Ini' can undertake and achieve rank in. Therefore an apprentice to the Guild of Protectors can decide to specialise in weapons creation once they become Ini' and would be given the rank of Weaponsmith in that Guild when they reached the required standard. Other examples are, a specialist in the use of metals in the Guild of Constructors may become a Metallurgist in the case of research and discovery or a Smith in relation to the working of metals. Or they may become a Mason in the working of stone.
Further progression from this rank is up to the individual. They can remain an Ini' specialist for the rest of their lives, but if they choose to progress to Master, they would then become, for example, a Master Weaponsmith of the Guild of Protectors, or Master Elementalist in the Guild of Magic, Arts and Time.
Levels of progression
Apprentice (title Apprentice)- generally entered no earlier than the 15th tellos in age and continues for 20 - 25 tellos
Initiate (title Ini') - entered following completion of apprenticeship and continues for as long as the Ini' chooses.
Specialist (title depends on the Guild) - the area chosen by an Ini' as a particular focus of training. The title is reached once the required standard is completed)
Master (title Master) - is applied for by Ini' who have achieved a level of training which completes a mastery of each aspect of the Guild and in any chosen speciality.
Grand Master (title Cor') - the single being chosen from the Guild Masters as the most skilled and worthy representative of the Guild. The Cor' represents the Guild on the Omnius.
